Zulily

December 2016-June 2019

I began my time at Zulily as a product copywriter writing copy for a variety of product categories ranging from homewares to men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, jewelry, toys, kitchenware, and more.

After being at Zulily for several months I was moved to the brand development team. This team was a smaller team within the larger product copy team that was responsible for writing product copy for high touch vendors, and larger brands. While on this team I also became a trainer, and was responsible for taking new hires through the month-long onboarding process that each new hire was required to complete.

After being on the product copy team for a year and a half, I was promoted to the editorial copy team. I wrote copy for the same variety of product categories, however on this team I wrote copy that spoke to each collection. Zulily features mostly three-day long flash sales. Editorial copywriters were responsible for naming each flash sale and writing sub copy to advise the customer of what was included in the collection.

SKUs were assigned on a daily basis to each copywriter on the product copy team. This number would vary from 90 to 140 and could include any of the product categories featured on the Zulily website. My copy was edited by an assigned editor for my first two months in the role. After that I self edited all my copy. Merchants would review all copy and provide feedback, I would then publish copy to the site.

The editorial copy team was responsible for naming each of the collections featured on the Zulily website, in addition to providing sub copy to further describe each collection. Collections were assigned at the beginning of each workday and completed within the same day. All copy was then edited by the team’s editor before being reviewed by merchants. Once merchants had completed their edit, copy was then published by myself to the site.
